Dear ArcGIS Users,
The GIS Training and Research Center uses a single ArcGIS license server for all clients. If you need to re-establish a link to the GIS Center's main server please follow these simple steps. We anticipate it will take less than 5 minutes to complete a connection using the steps given below. Here's how:
NOTE: Some of these steps have Macromedia Flash demo links to help you interactively complete that step. If you do not have Macromedia flash on your computer, our demo will prompt you to install it (and will not function unless it is installed). Alternatively, you can install Flash now.
- Determine if you need this update.
- This update is needed by all users of ArcGIS-Arc/Info. If you are running the stand-alone ArcView version, go to STEP 11.
- If you are unsure of the version you are using you can check by following these steps:
- Launch ArcMap through the default location of Start---Programs----ArcGIS----ArcMap.
- Look in the title bar. This will indicate whether you are running the ArcInfo version or the ArcView version.
- If the title bar reads "... ArcMap - ArcInfo" you need update your license manager link.
- Otherwise, you are running the stand-alone ArcView version. Go to STEP 11.
- Make sure you are logged on as administrator
- Modify your HOSTS file.
Use our Flash demo or these online instructions!
Navigate to your HOSTS file.
-
For Windows XP, it is located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
- For Windows 2000\NT, it is located at C:\WINNT\System32\drivers\etc
- Open the HOSTS file by double-clicking on it (chose Notepad as the program to read this file if prompted by Windows)
- Find the entry that reads "134.50.15.128 Leatherman"
- Delete this entry.
- Save the file and close it.
- Link to the new ArcGIS license manager.
Use our Flesh demo or these online instructions!
Launch "ArcGIS Desktop Administrator" (this application's default location is: Start---Programs--- ArcGIS---Desktop Administrator).
- From "Desktop Administrator", click on the License Manager folder
- Click the change button. Delete Leatherman and type in giscenter.isu.edu
- Your computer is ready for our ArcGIS license manager change.
If you have any questions about these instructions or if you do not feel comfortable making these changes yourself and would like to schedule an appointment for someone to help you, please contact the GIS Center at giscenter@isu.edu or call 282-5279.
Sincerely,
The GIS Training and Research Center
