Steps to follow when pursuing an internship in the Geotechnologies:

1. There are two approaches to a Geotechnologies internship:
   1. Seek an existing internship opportunity handled through the GIS Center at ISU.
   OR
   2. If you are about to begin working in a student GIS position, your job may qualify as an internship. Please speak to your supervisor to learn if they would be interested in being an "Internship supervisor" for you. If so, continue with step 2 below.
2. Contact the GIS Director, Keith T. Weber, at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of a new semester to learn about available internship opportunities.
3. If you satisfy the academic pre-requisites and an internship opportunity is found that meshes well with your objectives and the needs of the internship organization, you will be asked to formulate "internship program objectives" with your internship supervisor (an internship contract will be sent to you at this time). It is at this point that you will be able to determine the number of credits available for your intership (1-3).
4. Send your completed "Objectives statement" and "Internship Agreement" to Keith T. Weber (Campus Box 8104; phone (208) 282-5802)
5. Complete a "Schedule change card" from ISU. List the Course "Geotechnologies Internship" along with its course and index number. Bring this card to Keith T. Weber for signature.
6. Take the complete card to the Department of Geosciences. You will be enrolled in the course once you finish working with Connie or Melissa.
7. During "Closed Week" at ISU, you will need to complete your "Internship evaluation" and have your supervisor complete his/her 2-page "Internship evaluation". Upon completion, fax these forms to Keith T. Weber at 208 282-5802.
8. Contact Keith T. Weber to ensure your final paperwork submission has been received. Note: some interships will require a final report or other documentation/data. It is your responsibility to ensure that all the "deliverables" listed in your "Objectives statement" are met prior to the end of the semester.
9. Keith T. Weber will compile and read all your paperwork. These will be compared against the "Objectives statement" for completeness. If your internship is incomplete you will NOT be given a grade and you will be contacted. Later, this will be changed to an "F" if not resolved. Typically students do very well at the internship if they are well-prepared and eager. We try very hard to place students in positions where they will excel, but it is ultimately up to the student to really "shine".
